The 2009 Edition of the "Best of"

Every year I make a list of my favorites.

So yea, here it is. And in comparison to my previous ones, this is pretty pitiful.

MUSIC.
Songs (no order, and well I couldn’t pick between some)
1. The Rake’s Song- The Decemberists (only the Decemberists could make you love a song with this subject matter)
2. Microphone- Coconut Records
3. Nothing to Worry About- Peter Bjorn, and John
4. Ulysses/No You Girls- Franz Ferdinand
5. I Got You Dancing- Lady Sovereign
6. Got Nuffin- Spoon
7. Laughing With- Regina Spektor (it grew on me. I didn’t like it at first)
8. Hello Seattle- Owl City (in my defense, I called Owl City about five months before they hit the airwaves).
9. We Are Golden-Mika
10. Lisztomania/1901- Phoenix (probably my most played song this year)
11. Good Girls Go Bad- Cobra Starship (it’s fun)
12. Aha!/Between the Sheets – Imogen Heap
13. Lollipop (Squeak E. Clean & Desert Eagles Remix) – The Chordettes
14. Hell- Tegan and Sara
15. Crying Lightning- Arctic Monkeys
16. DFTBA – Hank Green (Um, because its just freakin’ awesome)
17. Bang, Bang- Rye Rye & MIA
18. Don’t Stop Believin’ – Glee (ha)
19. Happy up Here/The Girl and the Robot- Royksopp
20. Moth’s Wings- Passion Pit (this is a surprise for me, since I was all about the Reeling/Sleepyhead earlier this year).
21. Daniel- Bat for Lashes
22. I’m on a Boat – The Lonely Islands (brilliant).

23. Walking on the Sun – Empire of the Sun

I should make a top albums list, but that would show you how awful I was with music this year. So I’m just going to mention my favorites out of the few I brought this year: Passion Pit- Manners, Phoenix- Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix, Peter Bjorn & John- Living Things, and Tegan and Sara- Sainthood.

TV

I actually watch a lot of TV… but its British. Uh yea, but I was totally all over the second series of Merlin this fall (I'm waiting to see if NBC will pick it up again this year, if they don't it'll be a shame). I'm still pretty obsessed with Bones. And I still watch LOST, although not as closely as everyone else does. I started watching How I Met Your Mother, and then managed to watch three and a half season within a couple of days. This season has been a little off for me so I hope they do something with that soon. I watch Castle once and awhile because Nathan Fillion is in it. I watch some other shows, but this list will probably become boring so there.

MOVIES

I was actually surprised by the amount of movies I watched from this year, (most of them not in theaters). My favorites were probably Star Trek (it would be wrong not to put this on the list after I saw it like ten times), The Hangover (before you say anything given the genre this was meant to be in, it was actually pretty brilliant), Up (the first ten minutes of this movie was brilliant all on its own), and Sherlock Holmes. I saw a bunch that I thought were “OKAY” but I’d probably never watch again, like The Inglorious Basterds, The Men Who Stare at Goats, and Angels and Demons. With Inglorious Basterds there were elements I really loved, likewise the Men Who Stare at Goats, but over all eh. Angels and Demons was better as a book. In terms of my romantic comedy guilty pleasures The Proposal and the Ugly Truth were instant classics. I saw a ton of other films, but I’m not really going to go into reviews of all that stuff. However I did watch the original first five Star Trek movies this summer.

Movies I wanted to see? Whip It. New York, I love you. And The Princess and the Frog.

Be My Escape

I’ve given up on giving up slowly, I’m blending in so
You won’t even know me apart from this whole world that shares my fate
This one last bullet you mention is my one last shot at redemption
because I know to live you must give your life away
And I’ve been housing all this doubt and insecurity and
I’ve been locked inside that house all the while You hold the key
And I’ve been dying to get out and that might be the death of me
And even though, there’s no way in knowing where to go, promise I’m going because
I gotta get outta here
I’m stuck inside this rut that I fell into by mistake
I gotta get outta here
And I’m begging You, I’m begging You, I’m begging You to be my escape.

I’m giving up on doing this alone now
Cause I’ve failed and I’m ready to be shown how
He’s told me the way and I’m trying to get there
And this life sentence that I’m serving
I admit that I’m every bit deserving
But the beauty of grace is that it makes life not fair

Cause I’ve been housing all this doubt and insecurity and
I’ve been locked inside that house all the while You hold the key
And I’ve been dying to get out and that might be the death of me
And even though, there’s no way in knowing where to go, promise I’m going because
I gotta get outta here
Cause I’m afraid that this complacency is something I can’t shake
I gotta get outta here
And I’m begging You, I’m begging You, I’m begging You to be my escape.

I am a hostage to my own humanity
Self detained and forced to live in this mess I’ve made
And all I’m asking is for You to do what You can with me
But I can’t ask You to give what You already gave

Cause I’ve been housing all this doubt and insecurity and
I’ve been locked inside that house all the while you hold the key
And I’ve been dying to get out and that might be the death of me
And even though, there’s no way in knowing where to go, promise I’m going because
I’ve gotta get outta here
I’m stuck inside this rut that I fell into by mistake
I’ve gotta get outta here
And I’m begging You, I’m begging You, I’m begging
You to be my escape.

I fought You for so long
I should have let You in
Oh how we regret those things we do
And all I was trying to do was save my own skin
But so were You

So were You

Family Picnics, waterfalls, country, country, county...

I've spent the past two days in the middle of nowhere, PA (a hour outside of Pittsburg). And I had an AMAZING time. It's nice to see family you never seen, hang around in country where there are few cars, and beyond awesome scenery. So making lists is easier to describe what happens in my life, here is one!

-I was in nowhereville, PA and managed to find three Hoss’s signs.

-The TUNNELS

-Windmills farm

-omg. the fog/mist off the mountains 'cause of the rain. AWESOME

- You know your in the country when: These building are on the road: house, house, bowling alley, house house, strip club, house house.

- You know your in the country when: hay barrels, hay barrels, hay barrels...

-The path to the water at the park end more weedgrown then before… so not even a chance of getting down.
-Climbing up the kiddie rock wall
-pirate tugboat!
-After party at Aunt Verines house…
-Potatoe launcher!
-Madeline’s new obessions with chartwheels.
-You know your in the country when: you see a fox, a deer, and two skunks within ten minutes of each other because you almost hit them.
-You know your in the country when: being so far in the middle of nowhere you have to drive a half-an-hour/45 minutes away to find a hotel
-Wi freakin fi! In the hotel room
-Falling waters not being as excited as the world makes it out to be… I mean archtectially its brillant, but we all thought the falls went though the house, but it only goes under.
-The falls at Ohioplye State Park… kind of wanting to go rafting now. Well, Ohiopyle, PA!
-Finding a windmill farm of 10 windmills.
-You know your in the country when: I counted over seven abandoned cars.
-Triple AAA sending us on an hour jounery though the country to find the turnpike.
-I saw a covered bridge!
-What's up with the pretty popularied trailer campgrounds in the middle of nowhere?
-You know you’ve spent to long in the country when your excited to see a dinky little gas station with only four pumps.
-You know you’ve spent to long in the country when Somerset, PA is the most happening place you’ve seen in hours.

Blue Nails

And here's a picture of my thumb:

Which you may see the nail is very blue. I slammed it into a shelf at work. It's a rather dumb story. I picked up some chocolate sauce. I didn't notice that said chocolate sauce was still pretty close to the shelf when I began to shake it and hit top pretty hard. I can't wait till it falls off, which is probably what's going to happen because I've managed to pull a few layers of the nail off, so there are some craters in my nail.

It's time to leave Disney

Apparently my backyard is that hangout spot for hawks. These three hang out there quite often:

Oscar Wilde

I've been reading some scholarly essays and apparently everything Oscar Wilde has written is about his homosexuality.

Except Salome. That was about sex.

Soup!

Today I tried Vietnamese soup. They are always eating it in the photo lab. I rather enjoyed it, other then the cilantro. You get the broth, and you mix in your meats, noodles, bean sprouts (and then for some the cilantro- the green leaves). [Zoom for a closer view of the soup!]
