The Best of 2015!

MUSIC

[COMING SOON]

TV

Favorite show? It’s still Arrow! For the second year in a row. Couldn’t quit it even if I tried. The Flash follows pretty quickly after, I think.

OTP’s of 2015:
  • Oliver/Felicity (Arrow) – I could write an essay about these two, but I’m going to be calm. I AM CALM.
  • Ross/ Demelza (Poldark) – By the third episode I was hooked, the fourth I was already gone.
  • Isabelle/Galavant (Galavant) – Just for the adorz. And pretty exploding faces.
  • Danny/Riley (Baby Daddy) – FINALLY. FINALLY. And…. FINALLY!!
  • Wade/Zoe (HoD) – The feels. All the fluff and feels.
  • Rafael/Jane (JtV) – I won’t stop rooting for these two. Sorry Michael!

TV thoughts from 2015:
  • Miranda and Gary!
  • …. Galavant! This stupid, goofy show still makes me smile. Really looking forward to Season Two in a few day!
  • How many times did I watch the fourth episode of Poldark? I stopped counting. Ugh, that show.
  • Anyone watch that Australia show Wonderland? ‘Cause those last few moment, thou! I’m pretty disappointed it got canceled, but at least they gave us that!
  • I only hated one episode of the Flash last season (and that was because of Ray), which was my least favorite thing about season three of Arrow. Ray. (He might be my least favorite character of the year?! I still have a lot of anger over how they used him).
  • AHS: Freak Show felt like a huge waste of time. Wondering if I should bother with Hotel or not.
  • Young & Hungry really needs to quit it with the on/off Josh/Gabi stuff. Unlike Baby Daddy (FINALLY ending the terrible love triangle!), it’s starting to really repetivety and not in a good way.
  • Parks and Recreation ended. I remembered I like it a lot. The episodes, not the show ending.
  • Mindy’s development on The Mindy Project? I’m a huge fan of that. Danny? Not so much.
  • I rewatched the last season of Hart of Dixie, and I kind of feel in love with it again. Prefect end to the series.
  • Worst TV mother of the year award goes to Jane the Virgin. The best might go to Donna Smoak, but I’m pretty biased.
  • But, speaking of Jane the Virgin, I really like how they are writing Petra this season. You can’t help but root for her, which is a complete turnaround from last season.
  • Once Upon a Time had some great stuff with Merlin & the Origins of the Dark One. The Rest? I could care less about. Lately I seem to only like the episodes that have nothing to do with the main characters.
  • Kayvan Novak stole it with SunTrap, and Shiri Appleby on UnReal.
  • I finally watched Beauty and the Beast just in time for the latest season.
  • Chewing Gum on E4, was really raunchy and still kind of great.
  • Still a little sad over the Finn/Rae break up on MMFD, but still a great finale to the series.
  • I hope they make more episodes of Citizen Khan, oh and Step Dave. I know they are from two different countries, but still. More episodes.
  • So far Sleepy Hollow season three is making up for the meh that was Season Two.
  • I think I liked the end of Haven, more then I like the rest of the season.
  • Still not over Kevin, and so, so not over Charlie on Supernatural. And what the hell is Castiel even doing anymore?
  • New Girl engagement? Yes.
  • wtf is Castle right now. I don’t even know.
  • FEMALES ARE STRONG AS HELL.

MOVIES

I didn’t watch enough movies this year to warrant a top ten apparently, so here is just a list of some thoughts.
  • The DUFF: I like rom-coms, and this is so up my alley.
  • Kingsman: The Secret Service? This came out in 2014, okay, but I’m not English, so, yeah. This was a pretty great film.
  • Boy Meets Girl: The acting isn’t the best, but if you get past that, so, so good.
  • After the Ball: I haven’t watched this last ten times since I’ve discovered it – nope.
  • Star Wars: The Force Awakens? It’s Star Wars: The Force Awakens. I really don’t think I need to say any more.
  • Why is Mad Max: Furry Road, even called Mad Max? He has like zero presence in this film. It’s all about the ladies.
  • Cinderella: Plot- meh. Everything else? SO MUCH PRETTY. Awards for all the pretty.
  • Avengers: Age of Ultron? On the surface I really liked this, but if I when I dig into it, I start to nickpick almost everything.  That Hawkeye subplot? So not a fan of that.
  • Crimson Peak: see Cinderella.
  • Jupiter Ascending: nope. Just nope.
  • Pitch Prefect 2: not nearly as awesome as the first, but not completely terrible.

MOVIES:
This year I watched 215 films. I didn’t actually have a goal of how many I was planning on watching, but I’m setting a goal for the next year (250). This year I watched a lot of British Cinema, and managed to find a few random Bollywood and other foreign films in the mix (thanks to a cinema class I took in the spring). I didn’t really go the theaters much, and I’m going to use the poor college excuse. Plus, you can find mostly anything on the internet.

Favorite 2010 releases: Leap Year, Letters to Juliet, Toy Story 3, Cemetery Junction, Charlie St. Cloud, It’s a Wonderful Afterlife, Wild Target, Easy A, 4.3.2.1, Chatroom, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Tangled, The Extraordinary Adventures of Adele Blanc-Sec

The 2009 Edition of the "Best of"

Every year I make a list of my favorites.

So yea, here it is. And in comparison to my previous ones, this is pretty pitiful.

MUSIC.
Songs (no order, and well I couldn’t pick between some)
1. The Rake’s Song- The Decemberists (only the Decemberists could make you love a song with this subject matter)
2. Microphone- Coconut Records
3. Nothing to Worry About- Peter Bjorn, and John
4. Ulysses/No You Girls- Franz Ferdinand
5. I Got You Dancing- Lady Sovereign
6. Got Nuffin- Spoon
7. Laughing With- Regina Spektor (it grew on me. I didn’t like it at first)
8. Hello Seattle- Owl City (in my defense, I called Owl City about five months before they hit the airwaves).
9. We Are Golden-Mika
10. Lisztomania/1901- Phoenix (probably my most played song this year)
11. Good Girls Go Bad- Cobra Starship (it’s fun)
12. Aha!/Between the Sheets – Imogen Heap
13. Lollipop (Squeak E. Clean & Desert Eagles Remix) – The Chordettes
14. Hell- Tegan and Sara
15. Crying Lightning- Arctic Monkeys
16. DFTBA – Hank Green (Um, because its just freakin’ awesome)
17. Bang, Bang- Rye Rye & MIA
18. Don’t Stop Believin’ – Glee (ha)
19. Happy up Here/The Girl and the Robot- Royksopp
20. Moth’s Wings- Passion Pit (this is a surprise for me, since I was all about the Reeling/Sleepyhead earlier this year).
21. Daniel- Bat for Lashes
22. I’m on a Boat – The Lonely Islands (brilliant).

23. Walking on the Sun – Empire of the Sun

I should make a top albums list, but that would show you how awful I was with music this year. So I’m just going to mention my favorites out of the few I brought this year: Passion Pit- Manners, Phoenix- Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix, Peter Bjorn & John- Living Things, and Tegan and Sara- Sainthood.

TV

I actually watch a lot of TV… but its British. Uh yea, but I was totally all over the second series of Merlin this fall (I'm waiting to see if NBC will pick it up again this year, if they don't it'll be a shame). I'm still pretty obsessed with Bones. And I still watch LOST, although not as closely as everyone else does. I started watching How I Met Your Mother, and then managed to watch three and a half season within a couple of days. This season has been a little off for me so I hope they do something with that soon. I watch Castle once and awhile because Nathan Fillion is in it. I watch some other shows, but this list will probably become boring so there.

MOVIES

I was actually surprised by the amount of movies I watched from this year, (most of them not in theaters). My favorites were probably Star Trek (it would be wrong not to put this on the list after I saw it like ten times), The Hangover (before you say anything given the genre this was meant to be in, it was actually pretty brilliant), Up (the first ten minutes of this movie was brilliant all on its own), and Sherlock Holmes. I saw a bunch that I thought were “OKAY” but I’d probably never watch again, like The Inglorious Basterds, The Men Who Stare at Goats, and Angels and Demons. With Inglorious Basterds there were elements I really loved, likewise the Men Who Stare at Goats, but over all eh. Angels and Demons was better as a book. In terms of my romantic comedy guilty pleasures The Proposal and the Ugly Truth were instant classics. I saw a ton of other films, but I’m not really going to go into reviews of all that stuff. However I did watch the original first five Star Trek movies this summer.

Movies I wanted to see? Whip It. New York, I love you. And The Princess and the Frog.

MUSIC

My music taste gets better every year, I believe. Yes some artists such as Rihanna, and Justin Timberlake have people judging in my sanity (mainly Hannah) but who cares. You have to enjoy music, if you take it too seriously it loses its joy.

And Saturday Night Live within the last three months).

Pushing Daises
Chuck [ditto]

I was enjoying Heroes until this third season- WTF is going on? so freakin dumb, I haven't watched it since October. & I was growing tired of Ugly Betty.

MOVIES:

With inflated prices, lack of anything good, and being so busy, I didn't get much time to go the theaters this year, but here are the I really liked; 27 Dresses, Wanted, Hancock, Indy Four & Mama Mia. I also saw Twilight, Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2, & Made of Honor, but I didn't really like any of those, except Twilight made me laugh like crazy. Also I enjoyed Slumdog Millionare, but I streamed it online.

Favorite DVDed:
Death at a Funeral
The Darjeeling Limited
St. Trinian's
The Mummy 3 [actually liked it a bit, surprisingly].

Films that looked brillant that I really wanted to see:

W
